Ahhhhh! What a week! So much has happened since my last update. I've been getting more and more excited about our run in now, less than 2 weeks. Kristofor and I have been trying to devise a "plan of attack" for how we are going to maneuver the 9 hours and 11 minutes of activity we will be doing. Again, not setting any mileage goals, but we did collectively decide that trying to run as far as we can without stopping is not a reasonable option. Running as far as we can would most likely last for about 5 hours and then...we'd have 4 hours of pure unadulterated H-E-double hockey sticks. Soooo....here's what we've been kind of thinking as a basic plan...still no mileage goal:
**Side note: Keep in mind, at 10pm in San Antonio, it is mostly likely going to be in the mid to upper 80's...maybe 90's. So, umm, not exactly optimal running weather. That being said, we will be running a mile loop with one main water/refueling station. So we will have the opportunity to stop and cool down...I'm assuming (fingers, toes, and all appendages crossed).
Option 1: (probably the least likely): 3.5 mile per hour walking...This would amount to over 31 miles. Amazing, huh?! That's because this event is 9 hours and 11 minutes long.
Option 2: Run 6-10 miles, then walk for an hour, 6-10 miles, then walk for an hour....you get the picture.
Option 3: Run a 5-k, walk for the remainder of the hour, Run a 5-k, walk for the remainder of the hour...get the idea?
Soooo...that's what we are thinking NOW...this could change, depending on how we feel on the event day, or how many people are there, etc.
Now for the training I've been doing! Monday, I swam. Which I hadn't done in almost 2 months. I was swimming 2-3 times a week before. However, in late June, I was confronted with the decision to continue swimming or purposely injure a high schooler that was at the pool "swimming laps", which actually means they were horsing around and/or making out with their girlfriend. That's what the pool was like this summer. After a couple of failed attempts at "combat swim", I decided to save a teenager's life and not swim until school started. So this week, I went! And it was quiet and relaxing.
Tuesday I ran a SIX mile hill run. Yay go me! With EIGHT minutes of uphill running. Double Yay! Definitely an increase, but definitely doable.
Wednesday, woke up with a sore throat. Ugh. Went to work out with Renea (and Irma!!) and got a kick butt total body punishing! Can you say MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS...I did, 150x :).
Thursday, woke up with a sore throat, stuffy nose, headache, and missed most of my day at work. Managed to walk aimlessly on the treadmill for 4.5 miles while watching Jersey Shore. Snooki was inspiring with her wine drinking before workouts.
Friday, woke up with more of the same. Except my ears started hurting. Naturally. Went to the Dr., was informed of my sinus infection and double ear infections. But no strep throat. I'm gonna call that a win, because strep would have been a deal breaker. Got two shots in my rump and a Z-Pak. Yipee Skipee. Took the day off.
Saturday, more time off. Emergen-C pulsing through my veins...went to bed as early as a 1st grader...
SUNDAY FUNDAY! Woke up at 5am to run 15 miles, OUTSIDE. Completed! We ran the loop in the Country Club 5 times. A big BIG thank you to Javier that paced with me at my 10 minute mile pace, and didn't mind my mindless chatter or nasal congestion. That's a friend for ya! We finished at about 8:45, and my legs felt great! I was sure that I'd finish and collapse, but no sireeee bob, I was a fighter and I finished and had legs that could have kept going (I didn't...it was wicked hot).
Here's a list of the things I've accomplished today (all those bored to tears may click 'x' in the corner as necessary). Got up at 5 am, Ran 15 miles, came home, watered plants that were dying, showered, ate breakfast, went shopping, went grocery shopping, unloaded said groceries in 107 degree heat, set up new swimming pool for duck, cleaned house with help of loving husband, laundry, went for some more shopping, ate large and amazing steak, assisted parents with wireless network, and now...blogging. I've been up for 15 hours and its 8pm. That is a first.
So what was the best part of this Epic-full day of activity? Why thank you for asking!...
The 16 oz of low fat chocolate milk I housed down after said 15 mile run. It was glorious and I am a firm believer that chocolate milk is made by Jesus' Angels. It was religious this morning, me and that chocolate milk. It made the whole run worth it.
Now why chocolate milk? Read any runner/workout mag and they'll tell you, it has the right ingredients perfect for recovery. It adds back just enough. And, its yummy delicious and irresistable, even for a semi-lactose intolerant Lacy. I suggest adding it into your post long run repertoire if you haven't already.
**Side Note: I also highly recommend Gu-Chomps for during a long run. They are like energy filled gummy bears but not in the bear shape (they really should make them in a bear shape...) Nothing else gives me a boost I need like those. Strawberry is my fave.
So this week, I plan to do similar to this week, with different days off (and less sneezing and hacking). Hopefully, I'll sandwich in another long run, even if I have to do it on the treadmill.
Remember, if you want to send me a name(s) of anyone that has served in the military, is serving, or perished or survived the events of 9/11, I am planning to run with a list of names. I will run a mile for your loved one, and I'm honored to do so. Please just send me their name(s) and story to my email at lacysheahealey@gmail.com. Any donations can be made to:

I hope everyone has a great week! Say a little prayer that this nagging cold-ish thing I have goes away soon!
Thanks for Cheering Me On,
Lacy
